An eye check-up camp was organised at Tihar Jail in which 224 inmates were examined by a group of senior doctors from AIIMS.
224 inmates were examined including 214 refraction cases, five cataract cases and others with referral cases. Inmates were also provided with medicines and spectacles, said Sunil Gupta, spokesperson (Delhi Prisons).
The camp was organised at jail number five in association with Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS), and Department of Community Ophthalmology (DCO), All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) with the assistance of RK Memorial Foundation (RKMF).
"Since the responsibility of inmates' health falls under the domain of state, Delhi Prisons used to organise such camps on regular basis. Delhi Prisons are well equipped with round the clock medical facility in the jail premises having 110 medical staff and 200 para medical staff. Besides, around 50 NGOs are associated with it," he said.
The event was well attended by Director General (Prisons) Vimlaa Mehra who appreciated the efforts.
