The centre has been set up under the aegis of the Company of Master Mariners of India, Kerala chapter, after being authorised by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) under the shipping ministry, a press release said.
The certificates are mandatory for seamen on duty in the tankers.
Such centres have been started at Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata also.
This will be of great help to the crew of merchant ships based in Kochi who can avail of this facility for obtaining due certification prior to sailing on board merchant ships.
