Three persons, including a woman, were arrested here for allegedly being part of a fake currency racket with counterfeit notes worth Rs 2.25 lakh having been recovered from the trio, police said.
Acting on a tip-off yesterday, the crime branch of Faridabad police nabbed the three accused when they had come to the city to drop off fake currency notes amounting to a total of Rs 2.25 lakh. The notes were of Rs 1,000 denomination.
Vijender Singh, who led the Crime Branch team, said that the accused woman, identified as one Sandhya, is a resident of Palam in Delhi while the two other gang members are Kasim and Mustkim. Kasim was said to be the leader of the gang and he hails from Burdwan near Kolkata.
During questioning, Kasim said that, in the last six months, he has shipped fake currency of more than Rs 12 lakh to different cities in the vicinity of Delhi. He also revealed that he used to get Rs 40,000 in real money against fake currency of Rs 1 lakh.
The gang said that they used to get the fake currency from Varanasi and were in the process of expanding their network.
Police sources said that they are investigating the roots of the racket to ensure that it did not have any terror links.
