With film music running more on the FM radio stations, the cutting of basic song albums has come down affecting the sale of CDs, singer-lyricist-music composer and actor Anindyo Bandyopadhyay said today.
Discounting the notion that music industry is under threat, the 'Chandrabindoo' frontman said, "Don't be misled by the drop in number of CD sales. This can be attributed to various reasons including YouTube and FM stations, But with rise in population definitely music, different genres of music including Bengali music in different forms, is finding more takers."
"I see no threat to the future of music, but off course I think the musicians, record companies and everybody else should think about exploring new ways, the new emerging means to reach out to the audience," he said when asked about launching music online by bands and music companies in future here.
"I think the drop in sale of cds can be attributed to lack of good, lilting lyrics in the market. But music industry is not under any mafia threat. The word threat is a misnomer," he reasoned.
"Sure the online option is a viable option. It will resuscitate the industry besides catering to the niche segment of cd users as the physical manifestation of music will always be there. It can't go away," Anindyo said.
Anindyo, who was saddened by the imminent closure of Music World, said, "We have many happy memories of music launch as well as just browsing through the titles on the shelf."
Bhoomi frontman Surajit Chatterjee recalled how their superhit Jatra Suru had over 2 million CD sales way back in 2000 while 'Surojit o Bondhura' had over 4000 sales despite also being termed hit by the album producers.
