A city court today granted bail to AAP MLA Som Dutt in a case filed against him for allegedly filing false information about dependency of his parents in affidavits in 2013 and 2015 Delhi Assembly polls.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra granted the relief to the MLA from Sadar Bazar on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety of a like amount after he assured the court that he would not flee from justice and has deep roots in the society.
The case was filed by BJP member Praveen Jain, who had contested from the same constituency in 2015 Delhi elections.
Jain had alleged that at the time of filling of the nomination forms in 2013 and 2015, Som Dutt did not declare his parents as dependent members.
However, he was availing the benefits and reimbursements of Delhi Employees Health Welfare Scheme (DEHWS) by declaring his parents as dependants, it alleged.
"It is alleged that he intentionally suppressed the information and caused wrongful loss to the government exchequer. Offences of forgery and giving false information by way of sworn affidavit are made out," the complaint alleged.
The court had on April 26 this year framed charges against Dutt for the offences under section 125A (penalty for filing false affidavit) of the Representation of the People Act (RPA) and sections 177 (furnishing false information), 181 (false statement on oath or affirmation to public servant) and 199 (false statement made in declaration which is by law receivable as evidence) of the IPC.
