Families disappointed on being told fishermen going to Delhi

Families of five Indian fishermen released yesterday in Sri Lanka after commutation of their death penalty were left disappointed after waiting for hours to see them at the airport here, as officials told them they would be flying directly to Delhi.
The families had left Rameswaram early this morning and come to the airport at about 8.00 AM, as they were told the fishermen would arrive here from Colombo by a Sri Lankan flight, wife of one of the fishermen, told reporters.
They waited till noon but there was no news of the arrival of their loved ones.
It was at this point of time they were told by officials that the fishermen would be going directly to Delhi.

"We are very disappointed that we could not see the fishermen. We are willing to wait for even three more days, she said.
"We left Rameswaram at 2 AM this morning and arrived here by 5 AM. We thought they will come by the morning flight and since they did not arrive, decided to wait for the afternoon flight. Our children also were eager to meet their father", she said.

The fishermen sentenced to death in Sri Lanka for alleged drug trafficking were released yesterday after President Mahinda Rajapaksa pardoned them.
They were sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court on October 30.

Emerson, P Augustus, R Wilson, K Prasath and J Langlet, all from Tamil Nadu, were arrested in 2011 and sentenced to death by the court for alleged drug trafficking.
