Family claims woman died due to negligence, hospital refutes

A 70-year-old woman, who had suffered a heart attack, died at a hospital here allegedly as no doctor was present to treat her due to a function attended by a Union Minister on the premises, a charge refuted by the hospital authorities.
The victim's family members alleged before media here yesterday that Kanta Devi, a resident of village Jandi, died in the hospital premises as the doctors were attending the function of Minister of State for Health Santosh Chaudhary.
However, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of the local Civil Hospital Anil Mohindra today refuted the charges. He said that Kanta Devi suffered cardiac arrest when the function of the Union State Minister was in progress.

She was admitted in an emergency ward of the hospital at 12:10 PM and was medically examined by a cardiologist who was on duty at that time, he said.
None of the duty doctor was deputed in the function and the hospital functioned as usual, the SMO said.
Kanta Devi died at 2:10 PM and her relatives took her body for cremation.
"There was no negligence by any of the duty doctors or other staff member of the hospital," he added.
