Family members and relatives of three persons, who were recently arrested from nearby Pollachi, on charges of extending support to Maoists, today threatened to picket the Secretariat at Chennai, if they were not released immediately.
Three persons-- Selvaraj, a TNSTC staff, Shikamani and Ganapati-- were arrested and lodged in the Central jail here last week, on charges of supporting five maoists, including front-ranking leaders Roopesh and his wife, Shyna of Kerala, who were arrested from Karumathampatti on the outskirts, a month ago.
In a memorandum submitted to the sub-collector at Pollachi, the family members claimed that the trio were innocent and had no connection whatsoever with the maoists or its ideology, police said.
They also threatened to stage picketing in front of the Secretariat if they were not released immediately, police added.
