MACT Presiding Officer Ravinder Bedi directed HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending car, to pay Rs 25.75 lakh to the five family members of victim Rajesh Khanna, who died after being hit by an SUV while he was going on his motorcycle two years ago.
The tribunal, while deciding the petition filed by Khanna's wife and other family members, relied on the statement of an eye witness, criminal case record, site plan, mechanical inspection report and charge sheet against the car driver.
Khanna's family members, residing in Mayur Vihar here, said that on November 20, 2013, the victim was on his way home on his bike when he was hit by a rashly and negligently driven SUV near Laxmi Nagar area.
According to the petition, Khanna, who was working as an accountant in a private firm on a monthly salary of Rs 20,000, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment four days later.
