Under the provisions of the Juvenile Act 1926, if a prisoner is less than 21 years of age, he is entitled to be sent to a borstal school, Superintendent of Faridkot Central Jail J P Singh said today.
Borstal school is a place where criminal offenders are given industrial training and reformed.
Another reason behind the shift, according to official sources, is that jail authorities apprehend that the convict may be attacked in the jail here.
The court also awarded seven years imprisonment to nine others, including Nishan Singh's mother in the same case.
