Claims totalling Rs 15,082.95 had been paid so far under crop insurance schemes for Kharif 2015, according to the data provided by the Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
During Kharif, sowing starts in June while harvesting begins in October.
The data further showed that during Rabi 2014-15 (October to March) claims worth Rs 2,962 crore were paid.
Crops are sown in October and harvested in March during the Rabi season.

The public sector companies are Agriculture Insurance Company of India, Oriental Insurance Company, National Insurance Company, United India Insurance Company and the New India Assurance Company, he added.
While, from the private sector the firms include Tata-AIG General Insurance Company, Bajaj-Allianz General Insurance Company, Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company, SBI General Insurance Company, Future Generalli General Insurance Company and HDFC-ERGO General Insurance Company, Rupala said.
