A 55-year-old debt-ridden farmer has allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Ganga canal at Nauna village here, police said today.
Said to be depressed over the mounting debt, Sunder Singh yesterday jumped into the canal, police said.
However, the body of the farmer is still to be found, they added.
According to the farmer's son, Sumit Kumar, his father had taken loan from bank and had received notice to re-pay the amount. He was worried over the repayment of bank dues but was not in a position to clear his debt.
