"It is due to the wrong policies of the state government that farmers are dying. Had they taken proper steps at appropriate time, things could have been sorted out," Singh said.
He cited West Bengal's decision to ban export of potato to other states as the main reason behind the problem.
Several potato farmers had committed suicide, allegedly driven by financial distress after not getting remunerative prices for their produce in West Bengal, in recent days.
Singh listed out figures and statistics of other states to show how they initiated steps to help financially distressed farmers.
