A union of farmers' bodies today came out in support of ex-AAP leader Yogendra Yadav, who was arrested by police during a protest over farmers' issues here, and warned they "won't tolerate" such attacks.
Asserting that Yadav has a fundamental right to protest peacefully, the All India Co-ordination Committee of Farmers' Movement (AICCFM) supported the leader's demand that a farmers' memorial should be built at Delhi Race Course.
Yadav and his Swaraj Abhiyan volunteers had staged protest at Jantar Mantar since yesterday and planned to take out a protest march towards Prime Minister's residence to place a 'plough' as a symbol of protest.
"The way Yadav was arrested, dragged... It is wrong, we won't tolerate it. We are with him. The memorial should be built at Race Course," said Rakesh Tikait, national spokesman of Bhartiya Kisan Union which is part of the AICCFM.
Yadav and the volunteers were arrested during wee hours today by police which thwarted their planned rally to Prime Minister's residence.
