Farmers complain about power supply

Farmers of Rasulpur village today complained that they have not been provided with continuous power supply and other infrastructure despite being promised at the time of acquisition of land for power project.
"24-hour power supply was promised besides medical, educational facilities and village development," Sarv Samaj Sangarsh Samiti convenor Dharminder Choudhary said today at the mahapanchayat attended by hundred of farmers.
Around 2,800 acres of land was acquired from farmers of Rasulpur and 25 adjacent villages about 24 years ago for setting up of NTPC, he said, adding that they were promised that villages in 5-kilometre radius will get uninterrupted power supply.

In 2008, during second phase of the project, the then energy minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had promised power supply to villages in 10-kilometer radius, he said.
Till today villages are getting supply only for few hours, he said, adding that other promises were also not kept.
"All political parties only give promises and use farmers as vote bank at time of election, and later forget the promises," Choudhary said.
