Demanding hike in the procurement price of milk, farmers beloning to Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Welfare Association today staged a demonstration, with their buffaloes and cows, near Chithode in the district.
They demanded procurement price of Rs 30 for a litre of cow milk and Rs 40 for buffalo milk besides incentive of Rs 3 per litre to the milk producer by Aavin.
Seeking implementation of their demands, the milk producers have started a state wide 'stop milk agitation' from today.
The members of the association said that about 4.5 lakh milk producers were supplying more than 22 lakh litres every day to Aavin through 8200 Milk Producers Co-operative Societies.
However, officials at Aavin in Erode district said that the agitation has not affected the day to day milk supply in the district.
