The BKU farmers led by Haryana unit president Gurnam Singh, courted arrest at Pipli town, near here in support of their demands, including hike in crop MSP, withdrawal of the "anti-farmer" provisions in the Land Acquisition Bill, among other demands.
Earlier, a large number of farmers converged at the 'Kissan Mahapanchayat' (congregation) organised by the BKU at the grain market at Pipli on GT road.
The speakers, including Gurnam Singh, alleged that the NDA government at the Centre had "cheated" farmers by "going back on the election promise of implementing Swaminathan Commission's recommendation and on the contrary decided to go ahead with colonial and anti-farmer land acquisition bill to grab lands of poor farmers".
