Farmers must adopt a market-centric approach to double their income by 2022, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said today.
Shekhawat stressed on the need to focus on global marketing and added a fresh revolution in agriculture can be initiated only through transformation.
Speaking at a two-day international agriculture conference here, the minister said MoUs worth about Rs 124 lakh crore have been signed for setting up various types of processing units.
India is matchless in milk production and leads in food output, he said.
Shekhawat called for bringing technology from the labs to the fields.
The minister also referred to the olive tea production in Rajasthan and said it is helpful for curing 12 types of cancer.
He added that about 2.50 lakh students are currently enrolled in various agriculture courses in the country and his ministry is chalking out a strategy to connect with at least 1 lakh students to build a workforce that can help farmers in adopting new technology.
