Leaders of the Andolan, which had protested against the bill earlier in February this year, alleged the Government is pushing the legislation ignoring farmers' concerns, impelling the outfits to hold second round of demonstrations.
The Narendra Modi-led NDA government has promulgated Land Acquisition Ordinance in April, after the bill, passed in Lok Sabha, faced rough weather in Rajya Sabha, where the ruling party is in minority.
"On May 5, we are going to hold a massive rally. Government may bring the bill in new a form. They had failed first time. Second time they brought an Ordinance. Now, the third time they may bring the Ordinance in the form of a bill and try to get it passed. So, to intensify struggle against this, there will be massive farmers' rally," General Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha (36 Canning Lane), Hannan Mollah, told reporters.
"It is payback time for Modi whom the corporates supported with Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 crore to become Prime Minister. Now he is helping them set up industries exploiting people," he said.
The former MP said farmers, agricultural workers, working class, trade unions, middle class and intellectuals will be mobilised from different parts of the country to take part in the rally to be held at Jantar Mantar.
Mollah was flanked by General Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha (Ajoy Bhawan) Atul Anjan, Satyavan of All India Krishak Khet Mazdoor Union, Roma of All India Union for Forest Working People (AIUFWP) and Bhupinder Singh Rawat of National Alliance for People's Movement (NAPM) during the press conference.
