Karnail Singh, who was leading the protest, said as per the new survey of railway conducted in 2012, the railway track would pass through various villages which will even include fertile farm land and houses after the land acquisition.
Balwinder Singh, another protester said hundreds of families would be displaced if the rail track is allowed to pass through these areas, about 25 km from here.
Bajwa has been pushing for setting up of a railway line to start train services between Beas and Qadian area and he had also taken up this issue in the Lok Sabha.
The protesters did not find Bajwa at home though farmers left a memorandum in this regard. The railway ministry had ordered for a fresh survey in 2012 for setting up a rail link at the proposed place.
