The Narendra Modi government was working on the system to transfer cash subsidy on agricultural equipment to farmers directly in their bank account as done in the case of LPG gas cylinder, Union Agriculture minister Radhamohan Singh said today.
"Though it is taking some time, the system will be in place soon whereby farmers will receive subsidy directly in their bank account," Singh said after inaugurating a three-day horticulture show here in his native place Motihari in East Champaran district of Bihar.
The minister said that the effort was to remove middlemen in transfer of subsidy for purchase of farm equipment on the lines the government did in the case of LPG gas cylinder.
Singh said condition of 641 Agricultural Research Centres across the country was bad due to paucity of infrastructure of shortage of staff and efforts were on to streamline them.
Emphasising that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid much stress to develop agriculture sector in the country, the minister said that "after NDA government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Narendra Modi ministry is working sincerely to realise the slogan of 'Jai Jawan jai kissan' coined by Late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri."
He advised farmers for balanced use of fertiliser and stressed on use of vermicompost.
Horticulturists from across the country are displaying good quality fruits and their packaging at the exhibition cum sale fair organised by Agriculture ministry in association with National Horticulture Board.
