Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU-Lakhowal) today threatened to launch a protest against "anti-people" policies of the Central government and block all rail and road routes towards Delhi on September 30.
"All rail and road routes towrads Delhi would be blocked on September 30," BKU (Lakhowal) president Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said here after addressing a farmers' convention.
Peaceful blockade would be held at Ludhiana, Phagwara, Mohali and Sangrur district, he said.
"It is unfortunate that the Narendra Modi government is following the previous Congress government's policies even though both assured to implement the Swaminathan Commission report," Lakhowal said.
The government failed to provide remunerative prices for farmers' produce forcing them to adopt the path of agitation to achieve their goal, he said.
Lakhowal also demanded setting up of laboratories at every district headquarters for testing pesticides.
He warned that if the Centre fails to accept their demands by September 30 then an all India level farmers' committee would meet at New Delhi to decide the next course of action.
