The emphasis of the minister's visit was on development works related to sports in the area.

Abdullah, Union minister for New and Renewable Energy, directed the authorities to provide all the sports facilities to the youth so that they can use their talent.

He asked the state government to ensure that sports related works are completed expeditiously.

During a meeting with the concerned district officials, the Srinagar-Budgam MP enquired about the status of the playing grounds of the two colleges, Amar Singh College and SP College, for which he had released Rs 1 crore each.

"The two grounds used to get sub-merged under water and I wanted these grounds to be ready so that we can hold cricket tournaments there," Abdullah said.

The district officials told the minister that the works, which include five Lawn tennis and basket ball courts each in the two colleges, are in the final stages.

The minister issued direction that similar basketball courts and Lawn tennis courts should also be constructed in the Women's Colleges Moulana Azad Road and Bemina College immediately and said that he will release the funds from his MPLAD.
