The Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum Trust has written to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) Municipal Commissioner to return its toy train carriages and track.
This follows a VMC decision taken few months ago to construct a new track for a toy train to replace the original one at the Sayaji Baug garden.
The toy train meant for children below 12 years of age ran on a small track with 10 inches width, covering a distance of 3.5kilometres, giving the children a view of the 113-acre Sayaji Baug garden.
The toy train was a gift to Vadodara's children from the erstwhile royal Gaekwad dynasty.
The popular Bollywood song "Chakke pe Chakka, Chakke pe Gaadi" by music directors Shankar-Jaikishan, for the movie 'Brahmachari', starring the late Shammi Kapoor, was shot on this train.
Sayaji Baug was dedicated to the citizens of Vadodara by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1879.

Sayajirao III built Sayaji Baug, famously known as Kamati Baug, on the river Vishwamitri. It is the largest garden in Western India, stretching over 113 acres, with a rich flora of more than 98 species of trees.
In a letter dated February 26, 2013 addressed to Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Ashvinikumar, the chairperson of the Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum Trust Shubanginidevi Raje Gaekwad had said, "The VMC is getting a new train for the Sayaji garden."
She had written that, "The toy train gifted from the royal Gaekwad dynasty has a lot of sentimental attachment for us," adding that, "it will be admirable if the original locomotive which is on display at the premises of the Maharaja Fatehsinh Museum, will be rejoined with its carriages and track as a display".
