Father booked for abandoning 11-day-old baby boy

A 31-year-old man was booked under various sections of the Juvenile Justice Act by police here today on charges of abandoning his 11-day-old male child.
Mithun was charged under sections 75 and 80 of the Act for trying to hand over his infant to a childless couple, police said.
The 25-year-old mother and the infant were produced before the "Child Welfare Committee", Kozhikode, which ordered that the baby be handed over to the Government "Children's Welfare Home".
Mithun told police that he was forced to take the decision as he could not afford to bring up the child due to financial problems faced faced by the family.

Though his wife was against Mithun handing over the child, he was keen on on his move and persuaded her to sell off their son, they said.
Mithun has three boys, including the infant, and a girl child.
Action will be taken after medical examinations on the child and the mother are over, police added.
