The deceased Paramananda Mahanta (30) of Puranapani village was axed to death allegedly by his father Aniruddha Mahanta (58) yesterday, they said.
Paramananda used to carry cycle-loads of foodgrains from his house and sell them to meet his expenses which often led to arguments between the duo.
However, the situation turned worse when Aniruddha caught his son while carrying rice in a bicycle. An argument ensued between the duo and in a fit of rage Aniruddha hacked him with an axe.
Police arrested the father, the police said.
