Father-in-law of suspended IPS booked

The father-in-law of suspended IPS officer Vivek Kumar has been booked on the charge of cheating and keeping demonetised banknotes.

Deputy SP Vishvas Mahajan said a case under Section 420 (cheating) of IPC and relevant sections of the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation Of Liabilities) Act, 2017 has been registered against Ved Prakash.

During police raids, demonetised banknotes and benami documents were also seized from the residence of Kumar's in-laws.

The Bihar government on April 17 suspended Kumar after Sleuths of the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) raided his residence in connection with a disproportionate asset case.

On April 19, the SVU had unearthed Rd 25 lakh cash from a bank locker held by Kumar's in-laws.

The keys to the locker was found at the residence of the suspended senior superintendent of police's in-laws in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar.
