Additional Sessions Judge Yashwant Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on North West Delhi residents Pappu Singh and his son Sunny saying too much leniency in administering justice would lead to a loss of faith in the justice delivery system.
"Too much leniency should not be given in the interest of administration of justice, otherwise the public would lose its faith in the justice delivery system.
"Interest of justice would be sufficiently met if the convicts are sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment," the judge said.
The case of attempt to commit culpable homicide against the father-son duo was registered on a complaint lodged by victim Akash, nephew of Sunny's wife.
According to the prosecution, Sunny used to constantly harass and assault his wife Jyoti due to which she had left her matrimonial house and was living with her mother.
It had said Sunny had made several attempts to persuade her to come back and reside with him, but she had refused to accompany him due to the harassment meted out to her at the matrimonial home.

Akash had told the court that on November 3, 2008 night, the accused had approached him and Jyoti when they were returning home in North West Delhi.
He also said they began abusing Jyoti's mother and when he objected to the same, Pappu caught hold of him and Sunny hit him with a brick.
The duo, on the other hand, had pleaded that they were innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case.
