The Pakistani selectors have called up batsman Fawad Alam as a replacement for injured Haris Sohail for the remaining part of the Sri Lankan tour.
Alam, a left hander who has played three Tests and 38 One-day Internationals, has been informed by the Pakistan Cricket Board to be ready to fly to Sri Lanka as the team management continue to monitor the Sohail's condition.
Sohail injured his knee during a practice session and doctors have advised him a minimum rest of two weeks and he has been told to return home for rehabilitation at the national cricket academy in Lahore.
"Fawad will replace Sohail for the final Test and is also likely to be part of the one-day squad which will be announced later for the five matches in Sri Lanka," a official in the board told PTI.
Alam who recently captained the Pakistan A side in Sri Lanka was overlooked for the Test tour despite a string of impressive scores there.
The Pakistan team management faced another problem when left arm pacer Wahab Riaz was ruled out of the Sri Lanka tour with a fractured hand.
The fiery pacer was hit on his hand while batting on the first day of the second Test in Colombo and suffered a hairline fracture in his bowling hand.
"He will also return home and the selectors are likely to now rely on left arm pacer Rahat Ali who has recovered from a hamstring problem but is yet to be tested out," the official said.
