The judge was identified as Manuel Acevedo Hernandez by FBI spokesman Moises Quinones. He was detained at his home early today in the northwest coastal town of Aguadilla.
Federal authorities expect to release more details in an upcoming press conference.
Acevedo was suspended when the federal investigation began. He had served as judge in the island's Superior Court.
