FC Goa not in hurry for foreign tie-up: Dattaraj

Co-owner of Goan franchise of the Indian Super League FC Goa Dattaraj Salgaocar today said that they were in no hurry to join hands with a foreign club.
Dattaraj told reporters here that they would join hands with a foreign club only if they add value to their project in the long term.
Dattaraj, along with other two co-owners of the club, had visited Manchester earlier this year and had explored the possibility of a collaboration with the English Premier League champions.
"We are currently assessing our weakness and strength. All clubs offer expertise for a fee and it is easy to tie-up after paying a million (dollars). But we are looking to partner with a top club which has the long term interest of India," the FC Goa president said.
They were in talks with Liverpool FC and Ajax Amsterdam too but both sides could not agree that they were getting the best deal.
"We do not want to partner with somebody who would give up the relationship soon. We are looking at long term and that is why we are taking our own time. The partner has to give us the right support and must also be willing to put in the money," he said.
Shrinivas Dempo, co-owner FC Goa said that they will join hands with a foreign club within next few years, if not in the first season.
"We at Dempo and Salgaocar has enough knowledge accumulated over the last five decades. The market too is not really a problem. The biggest brand that we have today is Goa. We believe a meaningful tie up which will add a lot of value to the club. So we are looking at the right club to take us through all this. I am sure it will happen," Dempo said.
