FCI employee union threatens to go on strike on May 27
Press Trust of India New Delhi A section of employees of Food Corporation of India has threatened to go on one-day strike across the country on May 27 to press for their demands such as pension and other facilities for class III and IV staff.
The Bhartiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari Sangh has decided to go on countrywide strike on May 27, the employee union said in a statement.
The Bhartiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari Sangh today held demonstration at the FCI headquarters here and shouted slogans against the "negative attitude of FCI and the Government of India," Bhartiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari (BKNK) Sangh President J S Duggal said in the statement.
The union warned that procurement of wheat and other works of FCI will be affected if its demands were not implemented in time, he said.
The union has decided to submit a memorandum in this regard to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 10 and also go on countrywide strike on May 27, it said.
If its demands are not implemented in time, the union will go on a two-day strike starting June 9 with indefinite strike from June 29, it warned.
The employees are demanding parity in payment of fringe benefits on cafeteria approach to category II and IV emplloyees at par with the category II and I, implementation of pension, formulation of compassionate appointment policy, shortage of staff and provision of departmental examination for their promotion among other facilities.
The Food Ministry had agreed to settle these demands years before but the implementation is still awaited, it said.
FCI is the nodal agency involved in procurement and distribution of foodgrains.
