Following the success of his "Don't Breathe", Fede Alvarez is eyed to helm a follow-up to David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", reported Variety.
The movie will be based on the new novel by David Lagercrantz, who took over the series after its original author Stieg Larsson passed away.
It centres on Lizbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, who were played by Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig respectively in the first movie, as they uncover a web of government spies.
Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon and Yellow Bird's Ole Sondberg and Soren Staermose are on board to produce the upcoming movie, with David Beaubaire overseeing for the studio.
No release date and casting have been announced as of now, but the movie is reportedly on a fast track to be made next year. The project has been Sony's top priority since the studio acquired the rights to the book in 2015.
