Festive demand, tight supply lift sugar prices

Supported by festive season demand from bulk consumers and retailers, sugar prices firmed up by Rs 55 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today.
Besides, pause in supplies from millers supported the upside in sweetener prices.
Traders attributed the surge in sugar prices to increased offtake by bulk consumers such as soft-drink, ice-cream and confectioners, triggered by festive season.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices spurted by Rs 50 each to finish at Rs 2,680-2,800 and Rs 2,670-2,790 per quintal.
In similar way, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 traded higher by Rs 55 each at Rs 2,460-2,660 and Rs 2,450-2,650 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni, Budhana and Thanabhavan climbed by Rs 55 each to Rs 2,660, Rs 2,560 and Rs 2,550 per quintal.

Asmoli, Sakoti and Dorala shot up by Rs 50 each at Rs 2,650, Rs 2,480 and Rs 2,650 per quintal.
Prices of Dhanora, Simbholi, Khatuli and Dhampur also surged by Rs 40 each at Rs 2,500, Rs 2,650, Rs 2,640 and Rs 2,500 per quintal.
