Punjab Congress today said that fielding Capt Amarinder Singh against BJP leader Arun Jaitley from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat was a party's strategic decision to defeat the saffron party's candidate.
"BJP candidate from Amritsar Arun Jaitley will taste historic defeat in the upcoming elections," Punjab Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa told reporters here.
Asked whether there was any pressure from Congress high command to field Singh from Amritsar seat, Bajwa said, "It (fielding Amarinder against Jaitley) was a strategy of party high command which will certainly be successful (in coming elections)."
On a question, Bajwa said there would not be any change of contestant on any seat in future. Earlier, Congress had replaced Ravneet Singh Bittu from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat with Ambika Soni.
