The initiative by Panasonic India was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit here.

As part of the project, the first water purifier was installed at NP Girls Secondary School in Gole Market yesterday.

Dikshit said school children should take lead in water conservation as most people are unaware about its importance.

"We have to dispel this very syndrome that water and air are free for the society. As water is also being used for drinking and cooking, it is imperative that water must be of better quality, safe and clean," she said.

The function was attended by NDMC Chairperson Archana Arora, NDMC Secretary D S Pandit and Panasonic India president Daizo Ito.

Panasonic India will also conduct workshops across the national capital to educate children about clean and safe drinking water, water conservation and sanitation in collaboration with NGO Eco Roots Foundation.
