A fight between two tuskers claimed the life of a two-month-old male calf in a jungle in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, forest officials said today.
The incident took place late last night near Rupabali Reserve Forest under Sadangi Range when two groups of elephants came across each other, the officials said.
While one group belongs to the Sadangi Range, the other was on its way from Kapilas forest, P K Sahu, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Dhenkanal said.
When the groups met, a fight took place between two tuskers and the calf was believed to have been killed in the melee, Sahu said.
The carcass of the calf would be sent for post mortem, Sahu said.
