In fresh trouble for former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh, the Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to file a report on its probe in a disproportionate assets case against him.
A division bench of justices A S Oka and A A Sayed earlier this week directed the government to file the report in a sealed cover on the status of its investigation against Singh.
The court directed that the report should be submitted within two weeks.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by activist Tulsidas Nair seeking a CBI probe against Singh, claiming the state machinery has not done proper investigation in the case.
In 2013, a special investigation team of the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai police had registered an FIR against Singh for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income following high court directions.
The direction was passed during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by another activist Sanjay Tiwari.
