These undercover women combatants have been trained in a century-old martial art technique called 'Pekiti-Tirsia Kali', which originated in the Philippines, and is a close-quarter unarmed combat skill used to take on multiple opponents at one time by using obscure objects usually worn on the body.
"A team of ten women commandos have been deployed at the IGIA here to meet threats of any kind. These women were first deployed in the Delhi Metro network which witnesses a higher footfall and crowd density as compared to the airport," a senior officer said.
The first such squad of the paramilitary passed out in September under a special training programme for women personnel initiated by force Director General Arvind Ranjan.
DG Ranjan had then said these women would subsequently be deployed in other selected theatres of security rendered by the force, apart from Delhi metro, where the Central Industrial Security Force is deployed.

As per the existing plan, while there are 10 PTK-trained women commandos at IGIA, 53 have been posted at Delhi Metro and five in the government building security unit which is guarded by the CISF.
In some cases, these commandos will also be deployed in uniform but in order to keep the 'surprise element' they will largely be kept undercover.
