"Everyday 13-14 persons are being caught littering and a fine ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500 is being realised from them during an intense campaign to crack whip on people who are in the habit of spreading dirt and filth at the railway station," Raju Kumar, Area Manager of Patna junction told PTI.

Besides passengers, even vendors violating the order were being nabbed and penalty realised from them, Kumar said.

The special drive has been launched since January 27 last.

The campaign follows strict instruction from the new General Manager of East Central Railway (ECR) zone Madhuresh Kumar, who had seen a heap of garbage in Patna junction premises during a visit last week.

The campaign is aimed at keeping Patna junction, which is in the list of model railway stations in the country, clean and hygenic, Kumar said.

He lamented that despite presence of dustbins on platforms, people are found throwing leftout food, gutka and cigarrete packets, paper and plastic packets in the open.
