An FIR was filed today against BJP candidate and magician P C Sorcar for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Sorcar's reply to the Election Commission show cause for the alleged remarks on March 29, were unsatisfactory and it was decided to file an FIR against him, North 24 Parganas District Magistrate and District Election Officer Sanjay Bansal said.
Bansal filed the FIR at the Barasat police station against Sorcar, who is the BJP candidate for the Barasat Lok Sabha seat.
The showcase notice was served on the basis of a complaint by Trinamool Congress candidate from the seat Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.
Without naming the chief minister, Sorcar had allegedly said during electioneering that those involved in rape cases in the state were dubbed 'dushtu chhele' (naughty boys) and what would those speaking thus, say if they were raped.
Demanding action against Sorcar, Ghosh Dastidar had said that such a remark against the chief minister was highly objectionable and violative of the Model Code of Conduct.
