Following a local court's order, an FIR has been registered against a senior police inspector and another officer of Sion police station here for allegedly trying to save nine accused in an assault case.
The FIR was registered on Monday at the Sion police station, where the concerned police officers are posted.
In addition to the kidnapping and assault case in which nine other accused have been booked, the two policemen have also been booked under IPC section 217 (public servant disobeying direction of law with intent to save person from punishment) and section 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment).
Complainant Vilas Shinde had approached the Kurla Metropolitan Magistrate Court last month saying that he had been attacked by some people near Sion Circle following an argument over parking issue.
"When Shinde tried to call the police, the accused took him away in a car and again assaulted him," his lawyer G H Khan said.
Shinde further alleged that when he went to Sion police station to file a complaint, police sub-inspector Laxman Dagade merely registered a Non-Cognizable offence and asked him to leave.

"Shinde later got a call from Dagade asking him to come to Sion police station. When he went to meet the senior inspector Bapurao Gavit there, Harish Shetty, one of the persons who assaulted him was present there," Khan said.
Gavit allegedly told Shetty to register a case against Shinde and threatened to book him in an extortion case.
Later, Shinde filed a private complaint with the Kurla Metropolitan Magistrate, which directed the Sion police station to register a case against Gavit, Dagade, Shetty and others, the lawyer said.
"The FIR was registered on September 15 and police are likely to produce the copy in the court on September 22," Khan said.
