A fire broke out at a branch of a nationalised bank here, in which documents and equipment worth Rs 20-25 lakh were gutted, an official said.
"The fire broke out this morning at Bank of Baroda's Chaumukhapul branch, before it opened for the day," Fire Inspector Sandeep Kumar said, adding, the fire soon spread in the entire branch.
When people saw smoke coming out of the branch, they informed the fire department and two fire tenders were pressed into service, he said.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident, he added.
The fire was doused within 45 minutes. It is suspected that a short circuit might have played the trigger, the official said.
"All the office items -- furniture and computers -- worth Rs 20-25 lakh were gutted in the fire," Manager of the Bank's Branch, Anjum Parvaiz said, adding that no data was lost since the whole banking system is centralised.
Important documents, lockers and cash were safe as they were kept inside a fireproof strong room, he said, adding the exact amount of loss is yet to be ascertained.
