Garments worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire at a warehouse in west Delhi's Mundka which was doused after nearly six hours this evening by over two dozen fire tenders.
A Delhi Fire Services officer said the fire call was received at around 1 PM today. The fire was extinguished around 7 PM and cooling operation has been launched, he said.
A total of 29 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and brought the fire in the two storey warehouse under control after six hours. An adjacent footwear manufacturing unit also caught fire but was saved without much damage, the officer said.
Police said that prima facie, the cause of fire is believed to be a short circuit in electrical fittings. A case has been registered and investigation has been launched.
"It appears to be a case of short circuit but investigation will be conducted to pinpoint the cause. The extent of damage is also not known but garments worth lakhs of rupees were reportedly gutted," said a police officer.
