A girl, staying in the residential facility for orphans attached to the madarassa, saw smoke coming out from a shed on its premises at around 6.30 am and alerted the authorities.
The madarassa was vacated immediately following the alert, said an officer from Pawarwadi police station.
Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot which doused the flames within two hours.
Utensils, clothes and some other things were gutted in the fire, official said, adding that short circuit was the probable cause.
