The fire broke out last night in the weaving section of the mill and was finally controlled by atleast two dozen fire engines at 5 AM this morning, JK Jute Mill Director D P Bhattar told PTI.
No one was injured since the mill was closed down for Bakr Eid, he added.
According to prima facie evidence, the cause of fire seems to be a short circuit, however, a thorough investigation will be carried out, fire department officials said.
The mill will resume operation but the weaving section will remain closed for a while since it was completely gutted in the fire, Bhattar said.
