A massive fire broke out in a cardboard factory in West Delhi's Mayapuri Phase-1 area this morning, damaging goods estimated to worth lakhs of rupees.
No casualty was reported in the fire which broke out at around 8:20 AM in the factory situated in Block-B of Mayapuri Phase-I, fire officials said.
"The fire broke out on the building's second floor which was totally destroyed in the blaze. However, we were able to save the basement, ground and first floor of the building and an adjacent factory by dousing the fire in time," a senior fire official said.
Around 40 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flame, he said, adding that cooling operations continued till late in the evening.
Though the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, prima facie it seems that a short circuit may have caused the blaze.
"As the incident took place early in the morning, there were not many people inside the factory and those who were in were able to escape in the nick of time," the officer added.
