Fire broke out in the power car of the Brahmaputra mail on Saturday near Dashrathpur station in Bihar's Munger district, which falls under Malda division of the Eastern Railway.
Gateman who saw the fire alerted station master of Dasrathpur station, who contacted the guard of the train after which the 14055 UP Dibrugarh to Delhi Brahmaputra Mail was halted.
Railwaymen separated the burning power car from the rest of the train, which proceeded on its onward journey thereon, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO), ER, Nikhil Chakrobarty told PTI at Kolkata.
The CPRO said there was no report of any casaulty.
Dasrathpur station master Lalan Kumar said due to timely detection of the fire, the damage was controlled.
The CPRO said a probe will be conducted by the Railway officials into the reason for the fire.

Eyewitnesses said smokes were seen billowing out of the generator car, placed at the end of the train near the guard's coach.
Train services were disrupted for nearly two hours since 10 am as electricity in the overhead wire was snapped for dousing the fire, sources in Jamalpur railway station said.
