Chief engineer, CSTPS, Vasant Khokle said in a statement that it was not a major fire and it caused no damage nor anyone was injured.
A thin lining of PVC sheet, provided at the height of 13 meters in one of the towers of 500 MW capacity unit no 9 caught fire. The 180 meter tower is currently under construction by BGR Company.
It produced black smoke which came out of the tower, the release said.
Only ten percent of the PVC lining was destroyed and BGR Company, as per the contract, would replace it at its own cost, the release said, asserting that CSTPS would not suffer any financial loss.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) authorities said a notice would be issued to CSTPS, seeking explanation.
Regional manager, MPCB, D B Patil said a notice would be issued to CSTPS and it would also be directed to ensure that no such incident happens in future.
