Twelve fire tenders, including a floating one of the Kolkata Port Trust, brought the blaze under control within an hour in the M V Harshavardhan berthed for the last 18 days in the docks, SCI sources told PTI.
There was no casualty, but some cabins were slightly damaged in the fire which was suspected to have originated from a store room on the liner, which has been plying between Kolkata and Port Blair for the last 35-40 years, the sources said.
The vessel was supposed to sail on May 24.
